In this article, we are going to tell you about the 3 best and most popular WordPress plugins to add AMP functionality to your site. Also, the article has live AMP demos and images of our test sites running these plugins.
The 3 AMP plugins about which we are going to discuss are:
- AMP by Automattic
- AMP for WP
- AMP Superymacy
According to me, these 3 are the best out there on wordpress.org.
But firstly, let’s know a bit about AMP.
What Is AMP?
AMP means Accelerated Mobile Pages.
Accelerated mobile pages (AMP) is a way to build web pages for static content that render fast. AMP in action consists of three different parts:
AMP HTML is HTML with some restrictions for reliable performance and some extensions for building rich content beyond basic HTML. The AMP JS library ensures the fast rendering of AMP HTML pages. AMP CSS is a light weight CSS to serve web pages quickly. The Google AMP Cache be used to serve AMP pages very quickly to the users. And why should you use AMP on your site?
In my opinion, it is strictly recommended to use AMP plugins in every wordpress site as it has many benefits. It improves the website speed drastically which also improves SEO of the site. Also, the indexed AMP pages are cached by Google, and are served within milliseconds in most cases.
So, you should actually be using it without any delay.
Now, let’s get to the main topic, discussing and comparing the 3 most popular AMP plugins for WordPress.
This is the first plugin in our list. It is made by Automattic, the company behind WordPress.
The AMP created by it are the fastest among the 3 plugins, but lack functionality. It’s because the pages and the plugin both are just barebones, and it just creates the most basic webpages. And that’s what makes you AMP fast.
Luckily, some level of customization, like changing colors, logo etc can be done by some plugins like AMP Toolbox.
If you use Yoast SEO, then just install Glue for Yoast SEO & AMP. This plugin will add a new AMP settings page under SEO tab, which can be used to customize background color, text color, links, logo etc.
Keep in mind that currently only posts’ AMP can be created, while the pages’ AMP can not be created by this plugin.
So, if your top priority is speed, you should surely go with it.

This plugin is for those, who prefer functionality and features over speed.
This has many features including:

- Sticky bottom bar with social sharing buttons.
- Support for Google Analytics.
- Creates AMP version of posts, pages, categories, and even the home page.
- Can show custom menu below sites title.
It also has settings page to customize colors, logo etc. But remember, this plugin works on top of AMP plugin by Automattic. So, you need to install it too.
But you should know that functionality will slightly affect the loading speed.

Now, this plugin is for those who need speed with some functionality.
This plugin doesn’t need AMP by Automattic installed and can work independently. This plugin is just like the Automattic’s AMP, but also has a sidebar having a list of all the pages of the site. The sidebar can be called by a button at the top-left side near header.
Also, the colors and logo etc. can be customized and Google Analytics code can be added to your accelerated mobile pages.
